Curriculum & pedagogy

Programme one

Everything a child does, by design

At Kestrel Hollow School we see the curriculum as something that embraces more or less everything that a child does. Lessons, matches, rehearsals, lunch queues and service days are all planned with the same care — because character and curiosity grow everywhere, not only at a desk.

Our pedagogy is built on short, purposeful teaching episodes, long stretches of guided practice, and weekly retrieval across every subject. Pupils know what they are learning, why it matters, and how to get better at it.

What is included

Inside the programme

Sequenced schemes

Every subject maps small steps from age 3 to 18, so nothing is repeated without reason and nothing important is missed.

Teaching craft

Weekly coaching, open classrooms and shared planning keep every teacher — new or veteran — improving every term.

Whole-child record

Reports cover scholarship, sport, art and service together, giving families an honest picture of who their child is becoming.

How it works

Our teaching process

  1. 01Teach plainly. Short explanations, worked examples, and checks for understanding before anyone practises.
  2. 02Practise deeply. Long, quiet stretches of deliberate practice with the teacher circulating, correcting and encouraging.
  3. 03Retrieve weekly. Low-stakes quizzes revisit old material so knowledge sticks for years, not weeks.

Parent voice

“Our daughter’s teachers know exactly where she is and what comes next. The reports read like they truly know her.”
